The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released a recruitment notice for the Grade ‘C’ Stenographers Limited Departmental Competitive Examination, 2025, exclusively for eligible government employees currently serving in Grade ‘D’ stenographer roles. Eligibility Criteria of SSC Stenographer Exam 2026:
Only regularly appointed Stenographer Grade ‘D’ employees from the participating services can apply. Service requirements vary:
- Central Secretariat, Railway Board, IFS(B), CVC: 6 years of approved service
- Armed Forces HQ & Election Commission: 3 years of approved service
- Computer literacy (transcribing shorthand notes on a computer) is mandatory for CSSS and Railway Board candidates
Exam Pattern of SSC Stenographers Exam:
The selection process includes three stages:
✅ Computer-Based Examination (200 marks)
- General Awareness (100 Qs)
- English Comprehension & Language (100 Qs)
- Duration: 2 hours (2 hrs 40 mins for PwBD candidates using scribe)
- Negative marking: 0.25 marks per wrong answer
- Bilingual (Hindi/English), except English paper
✅ Stenography Skill Test (200 marks)
⏺Dictation speed: 100 words per minute for 10 minutes
⏺Transcription time:
- English: 40 minutes (55 mins with scribe)
- Hindi: 55 minutes (75 mins with scribe)
⏺ Candidates must opt for test medium (Hindi/English) during the application
✅ Evaluation of Service Records (APAR) – 100 marks

Interested and suitable candidates who have fulfilled the above-mentioned eligibility criteria may apply online through the official recruitment of the Staff Selection Commission. Must follow the below steps guide carefully -
- Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) at https://ssc.gov.in
- Fill the online application form and upload all required documents
- Print the application and submit it through the proper departmental channel
- Hard copy must reach SSC(NR), New Delhi by 27 January 2026 (6:00 PM)
- Candidates posted abroad: Deadline extended to 3 February 2026
